Hello you!

It’s been a busy week here in Bangkok. EyeEm got in touch not too long ago and asked me if I would host their Global EyeEm Adventure in Bangkok and, of course, I said yes – EyeEm is my favourite photo community after all.

The EyeEm team in Berlin sent me a package that included all kinds of EyeEm related goodies:

  • Big stickers
  • Small stickers
  • Square stickers
  • Round stickers
  • T-shirts
  • Name tags and more!

There was a lot of stuff packed into such a small box. Take a look:

All kinds of EyeEm swag for the photowalk.

Pretty cool, right?

I didn’t have much time to prepare or promote the event but luckily I had held my own unofficial EyeEm photo walk a few weeks earlier so I had a good idea of the route I would take the eager photographers.

After setting up a Facebook event page which the guys over at EyeEm could link to and then sharing the event with my awesome network of adventurers in my Meetup group I just had to sit back and relax (read: spend many more hours planning and refining the route).

It didn’t take long before the photowalk had more than 30+ people who wanted to join us.

The plan was to explore the Phra Khanong area of Bangkok which, right now, is a much more laid back area of Bangkok under heavy development. Somehow Phra Khanong has managed to hold out from becoming built up like the surrounding areas and only recently old building have started to be pulled down. I thought the area would be perfect for a group of photographers to explore.

After a week or so of planning out the route and doing some mental walk-throughs it was time for kick off.

See it all happen on this weeks vlog…

  • Jade and I started separating the stickers into individual bags to make them easier to hand out at the photowalk.
  • After meeting the group at the sky train we set off to discover the area together.
  • The area has a lot of graffiti & street art, often layered on top of each other, creating lots of interesting textures.
  • After checking out the graffiti we headed to the local Thai market.
  • Next up we made our way to a small shopping mall with an open rooftop. The mall isn’t quite finished so we all snuck up there to get a better view of the area. Totally worth it.
  • Finally I took the group up to a local sky bar to enjoy a stunning view of the sunset. Unlike other sky bars in Bangkok, this one is atop the highest high rise in the area, so the views are completely unrestricted – and seriously awesome!

Here are some of my own photos from the day. You can see more over on my EyeEm profile.

We lost a bunch of people along the way – 3 hours in the crazy Bangkok heat can be a bit much – but the ones that stuck with us and made it to the end of the walk can be seen in the group photo below.
